Resources & Presentations

South Central PA Highway Safety has a variety of topics and presentations we offer to employers, schools, civic and community groups. These presentations are free of charge and include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Fatal Reflections & DUI Goggles Fatal Reflections is a computer program that incorporates a digital photograph of an individual and then places them into a DUI scenario. The scenario explains what, when, and how the events occur, as well as the end results. The injuries are then superimposed on the digital photograph of the participant. DUI simulation goggles are also used during this program to help individuals understand the effects they would experience under the influence. This program helps to demonstrate the severity and deadly penalties one can be faced with if they are under the influence while driving.

DUI -- When a Drink Costs More Than You Think This program communicates the implications of drinking and driving by addressing the effects on an individual, a family, a business, and a community.

Share the Road In cooperation with Roadway Express Incorporated, South Central PA Highway Safety has developed a presentation for heavy truck safety. This program is called “Share the Road”. The idea is to demonstrate the hazards involved when driving in the vicinity of large trucks. It also informs drivers how to avoid the hazards that trucks present while operating their vehicle. It includes photographic examples of situations such as: blind spots, stopping distance, escape paths, etc. This program is designed to help individuals see through the eyes of the truck driver.

Saving Children “One Seat at a Time” A short program used to educate parents and guardians on the importance of using a child safety seat. This program touches briefly on crash dynamics and how young children react with crash forces. The program is often used in conjunction with a child safety seat installation demonstration.

You Can Make A Big Impression Without Your Seatbelt The presenter explores what happens in a highway crash, crash dynamics, and how occupant protection systems work. The effectiveness of seatbelts is demonstrated using crash dummy video of live driver crashes. The presentation can be tailored for presentation for classroom or a larger group.

Take A Crack at Safety This “hands on” program is an interactive presentation that allows individuals to actually develop a restraint system with minimal supplies in a minimal time period to protect an egg. This egg is placed into a mock crash test vehicle and sent through a crash simulation. This presentation demonstrates the importance of seat belts.

CSI Auto CSI Auto is a new program in which participants assume the role of crash scene investigators at a deadly car crash. Crash dynamics, momentum, personal fault and liability will be assessed. Participants will evaluate and discuss means of preventing death and injuries resulting from the crash.

“Out of Control” This program demonstrates the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving and perception. The activity designed for high school students uses remote control cars or a PlayStation race car game in conjunction with the “Fatal Vision” goggles and/or the “Fatal Reaction” device to demonstrate the loss of control experienced when an individual is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Lets Be Careful Out There This program focuses on local area driving hazards. Topics addressed include aggressive drivers, seatbelts, construction zones, high density traffic zones and DUI corridors. The speaker will address highway conditions and focus on addressing highway issues in the local area.

Mature Drivers: “Driving Safely While Aging Gracefully” A new program offered by South Central PA Highway Safety to those drivers age 55 and over. This short video presentation addresses some of the problems and concerns of mature drivers, and is designed to initiate group discussion. Topics for discussion are: Vision problems, Decreased hearing, Slower reaction times, Effects of prescription medications, Evaluating abilities and habits, Other age related driving issues. This program also discusses the importance and advantages of driver improvement courses.
